When most parents think of ideal travel destinations to take the kids before they grow up, I’d bet that the majority think about Walt Disney World. While taking the kids to Disney or on a Caribbean Cruise are definitely fun and worthwhile vacation destinations, there are plenty of other places and activities that would be of interest to school-age kids and which are suitable for the whole family.
My husband and I are firm believers that annual vacations are a necessity and not just a luxury. We want our children to appreciate the beautiful world around them and to strive for a lifetime of travel. While not everyone can afford an extravagant vacation, even those on a limited budget can find things to do that allow the family to experience memorable adventures for years to come.
It’s great to think about other places that the kids should visit to understand more about the world, how people behave, how science works, and what life is like for people who aren’t always like themselves. We give our children a wonderful gift when we expose them to places that have genuine cultural and educational value – from local treats and National Parks, to museums, old forts, and amusement parks. The more adventurous types can consider whitewater rafting, canoeing, camping and kayaking. The objective is to have a fun time together as you seek out new family adventures and learning experiences whether it be within the United States or anywhere around the world.
Here are a few unique family vacation ideas and destinations that you may want to aspire to visit:
